Chargers Rack Up 33 Runs on 30 Hits in Sweep of Lake County

The Carl Sandburg College softball team erupted for 33 runs and held Lake County to just six hits on the day as it swept the Lancers 15-2 and 18-0 on Sunday in the Chargers’ home opener at the Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex.

Key Moment
A two-run triple to center off the bat of Katie Droste (Biggsville, Ill./West Central) started the scoring in a six-run second inning for the Chargers as they pushed their lead to 8-1.

Sandburg Standout
Emily Bloomer (Burlington, Iowa/Burlington) was a perfect 4 for 4 at the dish to lead a 14-hit attack for Sandburg. She collected a double, three singles, scored three times and drove in three runs.

Freshman Rachel Barrington (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) posted a two-hit shutout on just 46 pitches while striking out three. She also went 3 for 4 at the plate, scored twice and drove in a run.
